Many rescue groups from all over the country have gone to New Orleans to help rescue animals left behind. Amazing organizations such as Noah's Wish and Pasado Safe Haven are on the front lines, going house to house and rescuing animals via boat and on foot.

Following the reports online and seeing some of these horrific images of animals just barely alive has made me want to do something more.

Shelters are over flooded, there are make shift staging areas that are over flooded.  Too many animals, not enough volunteers and still there are many more animals still trapped in their homes dying (many already dead), nearly three weeks with no food or clean water.

There has been an overwhelming response to the call for foster homes in Los Angeles - and I imagine there are other cities with people who would like to foster as well.  The problem is getting the animals to be released from Louisiana.

I already made my first trip to New Orleans to see first hand how bad the situation really is for these poor pets.  I am returning for my second trip on Sunday (Oct. 2nd) and my hope is that during this second trip I can begin the process of documenting what has happened, what went wrong and what can be done in cities across America to prevent this tragedy from happening to your own pets.

I have met some AMAZING people who have traveled from all over the country to help with the animal rescue effort in New Orleans.  Many of them have taken leave from their own jobs, left behind their own families and pets - to do this very important work.  I have likened to what my part in all of this to being like "moving one piece of sand" along an entire coast of Ocean.  Some of these people have been down there for over four weeks now and I feel strongly that their stories need to be told - what they've seen first hand.

If you have participated in any of these rescue efforts, please contact me via email as not only would I like to post your stories online, I am also looking for a way to get these stories published (and to donate all the proceeds to the rescue groups who made it all possible, like Noah's Wish, Pasado's Safe Haven, Best Friends and many many other groups).

I have created this site as a sort of gathering place for information.  I have had to spend many days researching online for my own trip and I'd like to share what I've found out with all of you - for anyone who may feel they want to help in any way.  Sending donations to rescue groups, writing letters, contacting the media and begging them to cover this very forgotten and tragic story.   Also, more needed than anything right now is actual helping hands, if you can volunteer please check out all of the information I've tried to post to help guide you on where to go and how to prepare.

If you would like to help the animals in other ways, please check out How you can help

Please keep all of the suffering animals of New Orleans in your prayers.

And may we all never have to worry that something so horrific would ever have to happen to our own four legged friends.

Love and Hugs and Woofs to all of the animals that you love!
