Many of the residents of New Orleans have been anxiously awaiting permission to be allowed back in.  There is no drinkable water, much contamination everywhere and there is not much you can do right now to get your businesses reopened - to begin resuming your normal lives.  But there is a GREAT DEAL that you can do right now, to help the volunteers who are down in your city right this very minute, furiously working night and day to save the pets that have been left behind by yourselves, your neighbors and the members of your community.

This is a plea to any one of you who is able bodied - to please immediately go to aid with the rescue efforts of the animals left behind in your city.  Rescue volunteers have traveled to your city from all over the country, leaving behind their jobs, their families and their own loved pets - to do the job that no government agency was able or even willing to do.

Many of these animals are STILL in locked houses, apartments, trapped in attics, scared, starving . . . it has been four weeks for them, left alone, sick with only contaminated water to drink.

Please  empower yourself  now and stand up and do something.  Many of you have lost everything - what better way to take back your life and take charge by showing up and DOING SOMETHING TO HELP REBUILD YOUR OWN CITY!  We understand that pet owners are not being allowed back into most areas, but if you volunteer for any one of the many animal rescue groups down here, you can help!

What makes this entire situation so much more tragic, is that animals who were left behind -  are not getting their pictures on the nightly news, they are not getting any presidential speaches and apologies - all they are getting is forgotten.  If not for the amazing dedicated animal rescue workers, who are working with very little sleep, very little food - around the clock - the animals who have not already died would be dead now.

There is very little time left, this is urgent and my plea to you is not meant to offend - it is meant to spur you on to muster up everything you have in yourself, down to the smallest ounce of having the will to make a difference. Do something - do something now!

If every one of you got up right now and showed up to help, imagine the difference you could make, for yourselves, your pets and for your city!

A special plea for those who have finally returned to their homes:
If you see strays or find animals in your home upon returning, first leave food and water for them.
Then call 1-877-836-9980 to notify. (It might ring for awhile, just be patient.)
The animals are not vicious--they are scared and hungry. Don't panic.
Just leave them alone and call and we will get rescue people to get them. They won't bother you.
